It has been nearly a month of freezing fog in the valleys but today with the temperature around 40 and a thin layer of cloud I rode the Rumble Bee to the Yellow Basket for lunch. It has been many moons since we ate here and while the food is average, I like the mid-20th Century drive-in ambience. There is no car service under the awning but there is a drive up window and inside a short counter, booths and tables. The menu features complete breakfast items, sandwiches and soups with a few dinner plates. I had the day's special: patty melt with grilled onions and fries. The sandwich was ordinary but the fries were cooked to a perfect white gold crispness. The prices are a little high, but this is not part of a fast food chain and there is some table service. The staff were friendly and keep the coffee cups full. On this weekday, customers were mostly workers in coveralls and orange sweatshirts along with employees from the nearby hospital and farmers who may be on their way to or from the main facilities of the Grange Coop that has it main store next door and a service station and granary across the street. Big flocks of pigeons, blackbirds and other avian free-loaders rested on the granary roofs. Every once in a while they all fly off as some individual thinks there is a hawk attack or whatever.

I always enjoy yellow basket. I've tried most of the options on the menu and I like most of them, except the fish, I don't really like fish so be your own judge on that.

Food and family. Old-school drive-in. You pay more than other burger joints, but these are GOOD burgers, fries, and shakes. This place is dependable for consistency and tastinessicity. It wasn't a word, until now.

If you have a fast food budget, eat fast food. If you don't know burgers, eat fast food. This place has great food. For those who are familiar with classic diner burgers this will be a great treat. Any complaint you may read from any of these reviews would be from the naivety of the Eater. Family owned and operated.

Way over priced and not that good. I'm pretty sure I could see through the meat patty on my burger. Never again. Should have drove a little farther down the road to Jasper's.

I haven't been here in a long time. I don't know if the prices have changed since the last time, but they were high this time. We ordered two combo specials (Ortega Burger and Mushroom Swiss - $7.75 each). We expected the combos to include drinks, but they don't; just a small paper bag of fries. And these are the specials, the price goes up for item anything that isn't a special. We were asked if we wanted fry sauce, unknown that it was another ¢.70. Since there were no drinks we split a medium shake ($5.00). For the $20+ spent, we feel like we got $12 worth of food/quality. The service was fine, but nothing out of the ordinary. The building seems clean, but very odd and sort of retro. It is a local business I want to support, but feel ripped off with what I get. The Ortega was okay, the Mush-Swiss was pretty bland. The fries are good and thick, but the shake was only so-so. If the prices were to come down some, the rating would change a bit. I don't know where the money is going, because it isn't going into the upkeep of the place. If you hate public restrooms, just be aware these can sometimes have a gastation feel to them and they are in the alley. I think all the food is free of partially hydrogenated oils though, so bonus for that.

I've only recently gone here to eat in all the 21 years I've lived in this valley! I think the facade although charming, somehow kept me at a distance. But no more. For fast food, hamburgers and fries, this place is excellent. The hamburgers are very tasty and juicy and the fries are crisp and hot. The fry sauce and ranch are VERY good. Must be homemade. I didn't get a shake but I see they have real ice cream. The staff are busy people in a busy restaurant, but are friendly and attentive and helpful. The prices are a bit high, but comparable to Jaspers. I think the burger tasted better than Jaspers. But they don't have all the fancy combos. If I just want a straight burger with no raspberry jam or smoked gouda or mesclun I'll come here first. I forgot to mention, that my friend got the mushroom swiss and didn't care for the mushrooms, thinking perhaps they were canned?

Was excited to try after moving to the area and reading good reviews, here and on another site, especially proclaiming the goodness of the onion rings. I spent $25 on mine and a friend's meal. WAY over priced for what we got back. The onion rings were bland, over salted, too greasy, and breaded in I don't know what. The burger was good, but not even fast food quality. The malt, however, is a real, old school malted shake and delicious. My friend also got a burger and fries and said it was okay. I'd rather eat at Sonic a mile away when I want a drive in hamburger stop. Cheaper AND better. In this case, non-corporate doesn't mean better...

The Rogue Valley suffers from a dearth of good food. Unless you're willing to look for it, all you're going to find is chain restaurant blandness. That said, Yellow Basket is a refreshing change of pace. YB is very reminiscent of the myriad mom-and-pop burger/gyro joints all over southern California. They also do a pretty good job of replicating the taste. There's something about a nicely grilled burger with thousand island spread and shredded lettuce that reminds me so much of being back in soCal. Food is pretty standard for a burger joint -- burgers, fries, onion rings, patty melts, and so on. They also serve real ice cream shakes here. The only quibble I have is that it leans toward the slightly expensive side. Two cheeseburgers, an order of fries, an order of onion rings, and an XL drink runs $15. I guess some people have a bit to say about the decor -- to put it gently, it isn't exactly HGTV-approved -- but you're there for the food, not the scenery. I mean come on, this is Central Point. There isn't much of ANYTHING worth seeing out here. But when it comes to what's important -- the food -- Yellow Basket absolutely makes the grade. Eddy's in Medford and Jasper's just down the road are comparable, but neither replicates that soCal burger joint feel. Oh, and don't forget -- this is Central Point. They close at 7:30-ish.

If you enjoy "real" hamburgers prepared in a family business - the old fashioned way, then you'll love the Yellow Basket. Personally, I'm a burger purist and I think they make the best burger in the Rogue Valley. Their Pastrami Melt is also a rich delight. For something a little more exotic, have the Gyro. The Yellow Basket makes awesome fries, and their Umpqua Dairy Ice Cream & Shakes are the best ever. What's not to love?
